Whether you’re new to the world of golf or you’re a seasoned professional, there are a wide variety of golf courses across Italy that cater to all levels, each one totally unique and often with breathtaking views, immersed in beautiful Italian countryside. Below is a list of just a handful of golf clubs and courses to choose from in Tuscany and Umbria, some more challenging than others and some with further facilities such as accommodation, bars and restaurants, wellness areas, swimming pools and more.

TUSCANY

Florence province:

Golf Club Castelfalfi   |   Castelfalfi, Tuscany

With over 9,400 metres of healthy fairways, Castelfalfi golf course is the largest in Tuscany. The area is divided in to two picturesque golf courses; an 18 hole mountain course and a 9-hole lake course, both designed by the award-winning architects Moroder and Preißmann. The luxurious club is set in dramatic scenery, bordered by cypress trees and olive trees and welcomes passionate beginners as well as expert players.

Circolo Golf dell’Ugolino   |   Impruneta, Florence, Tuscany

Englishman Cecil Blandford and the Irishman Peter Gannon designed this beautiful 18-hole course perfectly integrated with the soft hills of the Via Chiantigiana, covered with vineyards and olive groves. Besides the fantastic golf course, the club also includes a practise ground, restaurant, gym, swimming pool and golfing shop.

Bellosguardo Golf Club   |   Bellosguardo, Tuscany

In a unique position overlooking the hills of Vinci, this stunning 9 hole golf course is among the longest in Italy at about 5,800 metres. Welcoming and well maintained grounds offer a large driving range, two immaculate putting greens and a pitching green, all immersed in delightful scenery.

Montelupo Golf Club   |  Montelupo Fiorentino, Florence, Tuscany

Founded in 1996 by Christopher Cowie, this 9-hole par 36 course runs along the course of the Arno river on a flat terrain, set in the exquisite Tuscan landscape of Chianti Montalbano. The course stretches across nearly 3,000 metres and features a large lake, practise areas, putting and chipping greens, practise bunker and more.

Golf Club Poggio dei Medici   |  Scarperia e San Piero, Florence, Tuscany

Extending over the hills of the medieval city of Scarperia, about 30km north of Florence, this 18-hole par 73 course was created in 1992 by architect Alvise Rossi and Baldovino Dassù, the best Italian player in the 1970s. The undulations of the terrain are an important part of the course because whilst the sweeping land is more forgiving of errors, the length of each hole and a variety of obstacles makes for extra difficulty.

Prato province:

Le Pavoniere Golf & Country Club   |   Prato, Tuscany

Located 15km west of Florence, in a flatter area of Tuscany, this golf club once belonged to the Medici family. Designed by architect Arnold Palmer, wide undulating greens, long fairways, lakes and creeks are just a few of the  alluring features of the 18 hole course.

Pisa province:

Golf Club Tirrenia   |   Tirrenia, Pisa, Tuscany

Elected a few years ago by the magazine “Golf Digest” as the best 9 hole course in Italy, Golf Club Tirrenia is a private club with a course designed in 1968 by English architect Ken Cotton. The course is set in an area of 84 hectares and sits unobtrusively between a centuries old pine forest and the Mediterranean scrub.

Pistoia Province:

Golf Montecatini Terme   |   Montecatini Terme, Pistoia, Tuscany

This 18 hole par 72 course opened in 1985 and was designed by architect Marco Croze. The course spreads along the Tuscan hills and can be a challenge to players with its water hazards, deep gorges and tall trees. The club house is an old renovated farmhouse and offers 4 star accomodation, a wellness area, swimming pool and an excellent restaurant.

Siena province:

Royal Golf La Bagnaia   |   Murlo, Siena, Tuscany

Circolo Golf Abbadia   |   Colle di Val d’Elsa, Tuscany

Positioned on the gentle hills between Siena and Florence, in the beautiful town of Colle di Val d’Elsa, this golf club offers a very technical 6-hole course (5 par 3 and a par 4), a driving range of 220 metres, 16 practise stations (6 covered), a putting green and a pitching green. The golf course enjoys splendid views of Colle Alta and San Gimignano and the club house includes a bar and restaurant.

Lucca province:

Versilia Golf Resort   |   Pietrasanta, Lucca , Tuscany

Set in a vast open space between the Apuan Alps and the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Versilia Golf Resort offers a challenging and varied course with a truly unique backdrop. With 18-holes par 71 and a length of 5,873 metres, this has become one of the most famous golf courses in Tuscany and offers exciting challenges for golfers of all abilities.

Grosseto province:

Pelagone Golf Club Toscana   |   Gavorrano, Grosseto, Tuscany

Designed by Keith Preston in 1999 and named as one of the top 10 new golf courses in 2003, the Pelagone golf club is perfectly embedded in the hilly landscape of the Tuscan Maremma. The challenging course offers well maintained greens and impressive views and the club provides wonderful accommodation, practise facilities and extensive dining options.

Golf Punta Ala   |   Punta ala, Grosseto, Tuscany

The Punta Ala golf club dates back to 1964 and is situated in a wonderful panoramic position with breathtaking sea views from every hole. Giulio Cavalsani is responsible for the design of the scenic 18-hole par 72 course, which was carved out of a dense forest and now develops over a length of over 6,000 metres. The club house offers a panoramic restaurant/bar and a meeting room.

Argentario Golf Resort & Spa   |   Monte Argentario, Grosseto, Tuscany

In 2019, Argentario Golf Club became the PGA National Golf Course Italy and is the only PGA licensed golf facility in Italy. The golf course, part of an exclusive 5-star resort, was designed by David Mezzacane and professional golfer, Baldovino Dassù. The 18-hole course offers a varied and technically challenging route with sensational views of the Orbotello lagoon.

Livorno province (Elba):

Golf Club Hermitage   |   Elba, Livorno, Tuscany

UMBRIA

Designed by renowned Robert Trent Jones Junior, the clever layout makes Antognolla an exciting and satisfying course for golfers of all abilities.

Golf Club Lamborghini   |   Panicale, Perugia, Umbria

Situated between Panicale and the shores of Lake Trasimeno, famous motor car creator Ferruccio Lamborghini created this 9-hole par 36 golf course. The course is nestled amongst vineyards and woods across 30 hectares of Umbrian countryside. Ferruccio wanted to increase the popularity of golf in the area and make the game more accessible to local people. He designed a course featuring white sand bunkers and a variety of trees and shrubs, which appeals to golfers of all abilities. There is also a full-length driving range with covered tees and an illuminated practice area with putting and pitching greens. There is also a bar, pro shop and gym facilities.

ASD Il Castello Golf Club   |   Marsciano, Perugia, Umbria

Built in 2007, this golfing facility is becoming one of the best for teaching and practising golf in Umbria. It was created to allow people residing in the neighbouring municipalities to learn and enjoy golf. The course extends over 3 hectares of flat land located in the municipality of Marsciano, an important tourist and economic centre in the Tiber valley. The course allows golfers at all levels to play, even at night thanks to the course lighting.
